(And How to Use Them as a Guide Instead of a To-Do List)
First, some background…I waited for a diagnosis that never came.
I waited for a doctor to explain why I was suddenly experiencing debilitating anxiety and irritability⌠why I couldnât fall asleep at night no matter how exhausted I was⌠why I kept getting chronic UTIs⌠why I felt like I was falling apart when just months earlier, I had felt so vibrantly healthy.
But the diagnosis never came.
No explanation, eitherâjust the all-too-common shrug and a dismissive:
âItâs just part of getting older.â
But deep down, I knew that wasnât the whole story.
I knew this wasnât it.
This wasnât what I was destined to feel likeânot in my 40s, not ever.
So I started researching.
Thatâs meâIâm a research girl.
I question everything. I donât settle. I donât wait quietly in the corner hoping someone else figures it out for me.
The first book I picked up was over 1,000 pages long.
It read more like a textbook than a self-help guide.
I underlined, highlighted, scribbled in the margins.
I listened to the audiobook on walks and left myself voice notes.
I tweaked my routines. I experimented with changes.
I paid attention. I documented what worked. Then I read more books. I took certifications. I dove into everything I could find about hormones, midlife, perimenopause, menopause, and the female cycle.
In total?
I read about 12 books. Took multiple courses. Studied like I was prepping for the most important test of my life.
Because I wasnât just learning for me.
I was learning for the women like meâwomen who were feeling confused, dismissed, and stuck.
For the women I knew Iâd eventually support.
For our daughters, tooâso they wouldnât have to walk through the same fog without a flashlight.
I was reading, discerning, experimenting, and reteachingâbecause I had waited for answers that never came⌠and it cost me.
It started at 39.
I didnât fully figure it out until I was 45.
Thatâs why Iâm here nowâsharing what Iâve learned so you donât have to wait. So you donât lose another year, another season, another moment to symptoms that can shift.
You donât need permission.
You donât need a formal diagnosis.
You just need the right informationâand someone to go on the journey with you.
These 3 books were game-changers. Not because they gave me a one-size-fits-all solution â but because they helped me understand what questions to ask, how to interpret symptoms, and how to build a more intuitive, supportive relationship with my body.
And no â you donât have to read them cover to cover to get value.
You can skip around. Start where you feel pulled. Let the info land.
Come back to it in a different season. These books are guides, not checklists.
This book is a powerhouse for women over 35. Lara Briden is a naturopathic doctor who breaks down whatâs actually happening in perimenopause and beyond â and she does it without fear tactics or fluff.
Quick Tip: Start with Chapter 4 on progesterone. It might explain your mood swings, sleep issues, and anxiety better than any late-night Google search.
đ Perfect for: The woman who wants to understand what her body is doing and how to support it naturally â with supplements, nutrition, and smart lifestyle shifts.
This is the foundational text for anyone on a hormone journey â not just biologically, but emotionally and spiritually.
Quick Tip: You do not need to read this book all at once. The chapter on menstrual wisdom alone could shift the way you see your cycle for good.
đ Perfect for: The woman who wants to reconnect with her bodyâs wisdom, reclaim her power, and approach hormone health as more than just a supplement protocol.
This one is newer and highly underrated. Dr. Shepherd is an OB-GYN who speaks directly to the experience of modern midlife women â especially women of color â navigating hormone shifts in a world that often ignores or dismisses them.
Quick Tip: The chapters on HRT and libido are must-reads â even if you think youâre not ready for those conversations yet.
đ Perfect for: The woman who wants medical insight delivered with heart, clarity, and cultural relevance.
These books changed the way I see my body, my symptoms, and my options.
They didnât give me all the answers â but they gave me a starting place.
And more importantly, they gave me permission to slow down, get curious, and keep learning.
So if you’re the kind of woman who wants to understand whatâs happening under the hood, not just patch over symptoms â these are for you.

Did you / do you recommend hormone testing / gut testing . How do you do this without spending so much money ? Everything is so expensive nowadays I feel like trapped in not knowing what to do without breaking the bank.
