5 Science-Backed Things I Confidently Recommend to My Clients (and Now, You)

I get pitched dozens of midlife products a week. I only share a small handful a year. Mainly because I don’t think we need more tools, more gimmicks, or longer and more expensive routines just because we’re aging. We need things that are researched, science backed, easy to stay consistent with, and that actually move the needle.

These are the ones that do that for me. I’m 49, fully through menopause, and I’ve been working with women through perimenopause and beyond as an integrative health practitioner specializing in hormone and metabolic health for over 15 years. I chose every one of these off what I’ve researched and used myself, not off what pays the best.

A quick note before we dive in: a few of the links below are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That never factors into whether something makes this list. If it’s here, it’s because I use it and believe in it.

Lead With the Foundations

My Morning Routine

On almost every HTMA I run for a midlife woman, two minerals show up flashing the same warning: magnesium and potassium. These two are involved in dozens of enzymatic processes your body depends on, and they’re deeply tied to cortisol regulation and nervous system function. I personally started this 3 step, 1 minute morning routine at 46 in the throws of perimenopause and I’m still using it and recommending it daily at 49 in full menopause. Honestly, this is probably the one thing in my daily routine that I’d truly panic if I suddenly didn’t have access to it anymore.

This routine starts with Hydrate Detox, electrolytes dosed at a proper daily therapeutic amount, not so high it’s excessive, not so low it’s nothing but symbolic. It’s balanced with sodium, but not the athlete-level sodium load you’ll find in electrolyte mixes built for people sweating through intense outdoor workouts, this is built for a woman managing hormones, not training for a marathon. It also carries prebiotics to support gut health and digestion, which matters more in midlife than most of us were ever told, largely because of the estrobolome, the collection of gut bacteria that helps metabolize and regulate estrogen. And it includes glutathione, which takes some of the burden off your liver and supports a lower toxic load and better estrogen metabolism over time. If you’re following the Women’s Professional Baseball League making history, they recently chose this product for their athletes. This is what they’ll be drinking in the dugout to stay hydrated and support their bodies and their health. I think that speaks volumes. Of all the huge brands out there that they could choose from, they chose Hugh & Grace for their female athletes.

Then there’s the collagen: sinlge ingredient, pure marine collagen, types 1, 2, and 3. Most collagen conversations stop at hair, skin, and nails, but declining estrogen doesn’t stop at the surface. It affects joints, ligaments, and connective tissue too, and that’s exactly what types 2 and 3 are supporting.

Finally, the morning supplement: magnesium glycinate, milk thistle, curcumin, bioperine, CoQ10, and vitamin D. This combination was designed to work synergistically, supporting mental clarity, more stable energy, healthy blood sugar, and liver function. It’s foundational support, and it’s the kind midlife women actually feel. I’ve been using this one consistently for 3 years and company wide it has a less than 1% return rate. That’s pretty unheard of. Use code HELLO10 for $10 off.

I explain it more in this video and share a bit about my personal experience.

15 research backed ingredients that move the needle in midlife

This formula took three years to develop, and every ingredient is dosed at the level actually used in the research behind it, not a fraction of it, not “inspired by” it. DoNotAge is a health research organization first, a supplement company second, and their profits go back into funding further research.

Here’s what’s actually in it: glycine, SIRT6 Activator (a fucoidan extract), NMN, TMG, Ca-AKG, trans-resveratrol, Nitralis (fermented beetroot, magnesium ascorbate, and epimedium extract), quercetin, vitamin D3 with K2 and magnesium, SulforaBoost (glucoraphinin from broccoli sprouts with myrosinase), high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, CoQ10, and spermidine.

I didn’t just take this on faith. I ran my own 3-month study with 36 women, tracking symptoms every 30 days. Of the participants with complete intake data, the results were consistent and real:

  • 12 of 12 saw improvement in blood sugar regulation, averaging a 41% reduction in symptom burden
  • 12 of 12 saw improvement in stress markers, averaging a 34% reduction
  • 12 of 12 saw improvement in sleep, averaging a 36% reduction
  • 11 of 12 saw improvement in digestion, averaging a 37% reduction
  • 11 of 12 saw improvement in nutrient status, averaging a 44% reduction

This isn’t a supplement I’m recommending because it’s trendy. It’s one I put through the same kind of testing I’d want to see before I trust anything with my own body. It creates meaningful and noticeable improvements in the symptoms midlife women struggle with most. I could deep dive into each one and I will in a blog post soon because it’s honestly fascinating, but if you want to learn more about a few of the key ingredients you can check out my recent YouTube videos.

Recharge at the Cellular Level

Red Light Face Mask (with Neck & Chest Attachment)

Wrinkles aren’t actually the main reason I use this. Red and near-infrared light are being studied for their effects on cellular energy production, something I see flagged on nearly every HTMA I run on midlife women, along with skin health, collagen production, circulation, exercise recovery, and muscle and joint discomfort.

I do notice a difference in my skin, which helps me stay consistent with it. But I use this because I know it’s doing something deeper than what shows up in the mirror. I wear mine 4 to 5 times a week for 10 to 15 minutes, usually with my legs up the wall before bed, an easy habit stack that covers a lot of ground for very little effort.

Reclaim Your Smile

Oral Red Light (Heal Ray)

This is the one I hear about the most from other women, quietly, in DMs and in client sessions. Gum recession is common in midlife. Tissue changes and declining collagen play a role, and for a lot of women it gets noticeably worse once they’re in menopause.

I know this one personally. I had braces twice, once as a teenager and once as an adult, and my gum recession was significant enough that I had surgery for it at 31. I never wanted to go through that again, and in menopause, what the originally surgery fixed had declined so much that surgery was once again being recommended as the only solution.

Before I took that expensive and painful step…I decided to give the oral red light a try after a lot of research.

In just under a year the change was real enough that I’m no longer being told I need surgery. I’m not self-conscious about smiling fully anymore either, and that’s not a small thing.

If this is something you’ve been quietly dealing with, you’re not imagining it, and you’re not alone in it.

Simplify Down to What Works

3 Minute Skincare Routine

I believe skin health starts on the inside. My nutrition, the Hydrate Detox I drink every morning (under-eye circles and inflammation, this one’s for you), the collagen for structure from the inside out, and the red light are all part of my actual skincare routine before a single product touches my face. That’s why I can keep the topical layer this simple.

I spritz with the Aura Mist, the first hydrogen-based hydrogel mist designed to deliver lightweight hydration and antioxidant support in a three-ingredient formula. It replenishes moisture, helps defend against everyday environmental stressors, and supports healthy-looking skin. It’s clinically researched enough to be HSA/FSA eligible, as is the moisturizing sunscreen I wear daily. Round it out with a day serum and a night serum, and the whole routine takes about 3 minutes morning and night.

I’ll never over-promise what a topical can do. Genuine transformation also comes from lifestyle, which is why I do gentle lymphatic and fascia massage around my face and neck daily. It helps reduce and prevent the kind of wrinkles caused by stuck fascia, and it supports blood flow and circulation to the face, bringing in fresh oxygen and nutrients while helping toxins move out.

Topicals can’t fix poor internal function, but they are the icing on the cake. Mine helped take my skin from dehydrated, sallow, and covered in sun spots to plump, hydrated, and smooth, at almost 50.

Move What’s Stagnant

The Rebounder

An $80 investment, no affiliate link, just a straightforward recommendation. It lives in my bedroom, and I bounce for 10 minutes as soon as I wake up. It’s a non-negotiable in my day. But honestly, 3-5 minutes is a good place to start especially if you haven’t been working out.

Rebounding moves stagnant lymph fluid that’s built up overnight, which helps reduce inflammation, toxic load, and puffiness. My legs look smoother and more toned, my core is flatter, and my face is less puffy by the time I leave the house. It’s also genuinely good for bone density and heart health in midlife, and it gets my energy up first thing, before coffee even enters the picture. A 10-minute bounce does more for me than a 30-minute walk ever has and there’s actual science to prove that.

Move what’s stagnant. Find one you love on Amazon and make it a daily non-negotiable.

The Bottom Line

None of these are gimmicks, and none of them made this list because a brand paid for the placement. They’re the small handful I chose out of dozens of pitches, lots of research and a genuine desire to simplify my daily routines while still wanting to look and feel my best. I’ve felt the benefits myself and I’ve heard the feedback from my clients so this goes beyond research to lived proof.

Less is more in midlife. These five things prove it.
